About

Olivia is bright young woman who is very proud of her Ngobe heritage. This pride was the theme of her application essay. "I want to fight and say that in our comarca (reservation) we can do many things if we try to reach our goals," she wrote. Olivia plans to help her community by becoming a health official and she understands that she must work very hard and focus on her studies to achieve her dream. Her teacher described her as positive, responsible, and observant, a quality which was apparent throughout her essay, but especially in her response regarding one of her favorite subjects in school. "One of my favorite subjects is informatica (technology) because it helps me to connect to the globalizing world in which we live and it will help me achieve my goal of being a health official."

Hi Olivia,

Just to let you know you have many friends around the world who care about you and your success in life. Keep up the good work!
And, I wish you and your family the best!
Erika: The answer is, well first I looked for a person that would help me with my math subject and I passed the class and that made me feel very good because my cousin taught me things that I didn’t understand and this year I will go to the next level that is 10th grade and thank you for suggesting that I find someone to help me with the subject that I didn’t understand and I know that I will pass this class since you didn’t think it was good for me to stay behind in the grade. It makes me very happy to send this message to you but I also appreciate that you send me this message because it is good to learn and to continue studying to become someone in life and I also I send thanks to you that are supporting us students. Sincerely, Olivia Gonzalez

My name is Njiai. I come from Ngorongoro Conservation Area near Misigiyo primary school. Maasai people are very poor and uneducated, not because they like it but because of the nature of their environment. They live in a dry land that is not productive. They depend on pastoralism. They live in a typical traditional style. I am the second of the five children. My father passed away and my mother is unemployed. She possesses only four traditional cows. This does not support our family needs. My dream to be is a nurse. I can only get there by learning seriously and concentrating in the classroom. I will be very happy if one day I have completed my education and have my own income.

Before I was in The School Fund family, it was too hard for me to attend school when the school fee was not paid. Because of The School Fund, I learned never to give up. For some years now, my family has been separated. I had to live away from home during my Ordinary level studies. My mother had gone to Arusha to start another life so it was hard for me to be with her during my school years. My dream is to be a doctor and treat my fellow Tanzanians and even others from outside my country. For me to get there, I have to work on my studies. The moment I felt proud of myself was when I was told that I would be one of The School Fund Family. The happiest moments of my life are when I see my mother.
