Eline’s family works hard on their subsistence farm to make ends meet, but often lack the additional resources to pay for school fees. Eline has two siblings: a younger brother and an older sister. While attending secondary school in Form IV, Eline’s sister became pregnant. Eline’s family supported her through the pregnancy and now, Eline’s sister is back attending secondary school. Eline and her siblings are very thankful that their family supports their education despite obstacles. Eline is very close with her family and hopes to create a new future for them through her secondary education.

Dear TSF sponsors,

This is Tunu, the Communications and Development Manager at Orkeeswa School.

As you may be aware, Orkeeswa School reopened in June after we made several changes on campus to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community. 

We are proud to let you know that Eline completed her 12th Grade National Exams last month, reaching a milestone that only 28% of Tanzanians reach nationally, and less than 1% of girls in rural areas. She was also recognized for being the most respectful student in her class. We celebrated with her during a small graduation ceremony held at Orkeeswa School. I’ve included a photo of Eline below from their special day.

We were also able to sit down with Eline and reflect on her time at Orkeeswa. The growth that Eline and her classmates have had over the past seven years, and their impact in their homes and community is truly inspiring. 

“Orkeeswa School has been a huge part of my growth. When in 6th grade, I couldn’t speak English and I was so shy! I am not like that anymore. Now I am strong. I have tried new activities and built confidence in myself. I did not understand the importance of education when I began school here, but now I fully understand it.” Eline's Preform 1 reflection

"Graduating 12th grade has been marked as one of my happiest moments. I am really proud of myself. Even my community and family received me in a very proud way with a lot of congratulations. I am now back at school doing a post 12th grade program that prepares us for where we are heading. After it, I will do community service and serve my community as I am waiting for my exam results, which I am expecting good results and going to university." - Eline's post graduate reflection

    Matata is a daring young boy who believes that success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable. He is the last born in a family of four. His parents are unemployed and largely depend on subsistence farming, which has been negatively affected by frequent severe droughts. Most of the rural roads in his village are very impassable and this has pushed him towards achieving his dream of becoming an engineer. Since Matata was a young boy, he has always liked playing football not only at home but also in school and he was the goalkeeper for his school team.

    Kelvin is a young student whose father has abandoned him, his brother, and his mother. She had an obstetric fistula from giving birth that made it very difficult for her to work. Kelvin is close with his grandparents but his mother struggles to keep the family housed and there are days they only have one meal. He wants to succeed in school along with his brother.
