Since Ngirunga’s father died many years ago, his mother has supported her four children by herself. Ngirunga now lives with his mother who is a subsistence farmer, his younger sister who is in primary school, and his two older brothers. His older brothers did not have the opportunity to go to secondary school and now work at home on the family farm. Ngirunga hopes to be able to receive a quality education so that he can give back to his family and ensure that his sister also goes to secondary school.

This is Samantha, the Scholarship Coordinator at Orkeeswa School, writing on his behalf. I wanted to let you know that Ngirunga is now a 12th Grade student who will be very busy this year preparing for his National Exams so that he can continue on to University next year. We are very proud of him for this accomplishment and look forward to seeing him reach his full potential as a scholar and leader in his community!

Outside of academics, Ngirunga has been busy with many campus activities. Most recently, he worked on the Orkeeswa School newspaper staff to produce the 10-year Anniversary edition of the Orkeeswa Journal. He and his classmates interviewed teachers, students, and community members about the impact of Orkeeswa School. It was an incredible learning experience for him!

Ngirunga wrote a letter about his experience working on the newspaper, and I wanted to share it with you.

This is Samantha, the Scholarship Coordinator at Orkeeswa School, writing on behalf of Ngirunga. Ngirunga is now in 11th grade, and he is studying Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. As you can imagine, he spends a lot of his time studying and staying late after school to review course material now that he has reached his Advanced Level studies!

Outside of classwork, Ngirunga still makes time to play sports with his friends, and has even just signed up for the Herbarium Club, which allows him to study different type of plants around campus.
