About

Sanga lives with his mother, 4 sisters, 2 brothers and one cousin. Sanga's father passed away in 2011 and his mother does not work. His oldest sister works as a maid to bring in a little money for the family. Sanga lives just outside N'gomebe in a village style house made out of hand made mud bricks. His house has no electricity, and no running water, so his mother and sisters fetch water daily for the family. Sanga is a good student. He recently passed his 7th grade examinations with Zambian standard of an A+ in all subjects. Sanga says he likes school because it will give him a good future and he has the best chance at providing for his family. He spends more time studying than playing with his friends because he knows how important his education is.

Sanga - how are things? It has been a while since we last heard from you. Are your classes going well?

Best,
Jack
Sanga,
Adventure City sounds incredible - I love going to places like that with friends and family! It sounds like such a fun field trip with your school.

As for the Golden Jubilee, what is your school doing to celebrate? It sounds like it will be a great time to be a Zambian, you should be very proud.

My family is well, I hope that yours is in good health too. We are preparing for Halloween and Thanksgiving in America, some very fun holidays with family and friends.

Good luck on your exams!
-Jack
Dear Sponsors,

Hope you are all fine and are enjoying yourselves and families. As for me, I am fine together with my family. I am just waiting for the final exams which start next month in November. I am well prepared and ready to face it and qualify to grade ten next year. We are having a one week holiday due to the examination that are taking place for the grade sevens. Last week on the 10th of October, on Friday we went on a tour as a school. We went to the Adventure City to have fun like swimming, dancing and running etc.

Thanks to all friends and sponsors from the USA for sponsoring and making friendships with me.

Thanks to all sponsors and friends. God bless you all.

Hi Jack,

I hope you are fine together with your friends and family. As for me, I am fine with my family and closest friends.

It's good that you also have show grounds (fairs). Apart from the show ground we had a tour last week on friday 10th October. We had to go to Adventure City as a school. It was also full of funs like swimming, dancing and singing. it was wonderful to see all the school pupils and teachers. I was very happy because it was my first time to go to the Adventure which takes place every year.

We are starting our grade non final exams on 10th of November. Im prepared and ready for it. I am confident that i will pass more than I did during my mock exams, and will qualify for grade ten.

On the 24th of October we are celebrating the Golden Jubilee as Zambians, we are celebrating 50 years of independence. Zambia is turning 50 years. As a school we will participate int he celebrations.

Thanks Jack,

Sanga
Hi Amy,

We opened our schools on 8th Monday, September 2014. We collected our results on 12th last Friday. I was impressed with them because I passed all the six subjects.

I want to say thank you to you because I am also getting mealie meal, sugar, cooking oil, and soap. My mother was happy and excited, she’s thanking you a lot. She was not able to afford to buy those things and paying a school’s fees.

From,
Sanga Mwanza
Dear Amy,

I am excited to have a new sponsor like you any who will be sponsoring me. This is another way of putting more effort in my schooling. I am so lad more than anyone. I watched the world cup but it wasn’t interesting than the one in 2010.

Because my favorite team Netherlands had no chance to go reach the final, congratulation to the winners Germany.

My hobbies is to play football, and play p.s.p with my friend during our free time, Despite that we even read story books. We have started writing our mock exams, we are about to finish, only two papers remain O.P. and English paper 3. We alredy done some of the subjects Science, Maths, R. E. (Regions Education) etc.

We learn eight subjects in Zambia but only they choose the best six subjects which are best.

Sanga,
The agricultural show sounds like a lot of fun! We have similar events here - they are called "fairs." They take place at show grounds, similar to the one in Lusaka, and are full of games, different kinds of foods, agricultural tours, and more. They are really fun and they usually take place all throughout the summer.

Good luck with the rest of your mock exams!

-Jack
Hi Jack, Becca and Christopher!

I great your families and your friends that you are all fine like I am with my family and friends.

We started our mock exams on the 25th of July 2014. It is not as easy as the final exams. Mock exams are too difficult, although I have to pass it.

Apart from enjoying mock exams, we had a big agriculture where where a variety of activities were done with an uncountable number of people attending. This particular show is at the show grounds in Lusaka to celebrate Farmers day. We had to see a lot of important people, musicians, and footballers at this show. It happens annually so it takes place every year in the month of August. People celebrate more on this day than they do on Christmas day or New Year.

Do you also have such an activity there? How or when does it take place. What is it called?

Sanga
Hi Sanga!

I live in San Francisco, California in the United States. I was very excited to see that you like the World Cup - I am watching with my friends and coworkers. I am rooting for USA (of course!) and also Mexico because my fiance's mother is from Mexico.

What are your hobbies? I like to take photographs of nature (especially when I'm hiking in California) and also to run. I would love to run a marathon but it seems so far! Do you play any sports?

I would love to learn more about you! Hope to hear from you soon.

Amy
Sanga,
It is always a pleasure for the students of East Lyme to support you. Keep up the great work! You will make a difference in the lives of many as you remember to do for others. :)

Dear Jack,Becca and Christopher
It is another good month with good weather, were people need to put on sweaters. How is everyone there, you friends and and your family? As for me am fine and am enjoying my school. Am ready to take any test on any subjects, because I always study hard to pass my mock exams and final exams.
My mother is greeting you here, she always appriciate the for the friendship between you and I.
The world cup is around the corner and I am supporting U.S.A and Netherland,I hope and trust that U.S.A will image us proud concerning this year's world cup that they did in 2010.
I wish Zambia was there. What is your favourite team to watch concerning this year's world cup? Who do you think will get the best player of this year's world cup?
I wish we had Television instead of watching from our neighbours.

Thank you.

Sanga M.
Sanga,
Great to hear from you. I am sorry that your holiday was not as exciting as you wished, but that happens sometimes. There have been many times in my life when I wanted to go and play, but I stuck around to work and study, which really paid off in the end. Good luck on the results of your exams!

I am glad that you and your family are in good health - my family and I are also in good health and happy. We are celebrating my sister's birthday tomorrow and my birthday later this month, so we have very exciting times ahead.

To answer your questions about games that I like to play: to be honest, I don't play many video games. I am quite familiar with Fifa 2014 though, my friends love to play it and are very good. I tend to like to explore outside and find little adventures around town instead of playing video games. I'll even pick up a good adventure story in a book before I'll play a video game. Although it might sound strange, I just don't find them very exciting.

I am reading the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain right now. Have you ever read that? It is an absolutely incredible story of adventure and the coming of age for young men. Although I've read it before, I enjoy reading it from time to time to remind me of the spirit of adventure (amongst many other life lessons). Do you read books for fun? What books are you reading?

All the best & good luck on the exam results!
-Jack
Dear Jack, Shannon, Christopher and Becca,

First I would like to send my greetings to you and your families. As for my family and I we are fine.

We are getting our results for term one tests this friday and I am waiting nothing but the best results. I was not happy with how I spent my holiday because I didn't visit any of my relatives or an important place. I didn't get to travel because we were going for some extra lessons with my friend Bruce.

How did you spend your holidays? Didi you visit any important places?

Sanga
Dear Sanga,

Good luck on your new term and hope you enjoyed your holiday!

Best Wishes,
Mrs. Saglio
Dear Jack,

We have just finished writing out term one tests. The tests were just okay except for office practices. The rest of the subjects were good. We are closing tomorrow, and we are expecting our school to be opened on the 7th of May. During my holiday I will be studying to get ready for the final exams. The title of a book I like to read during my free time is titled "Get Healthy." It has many interest like how one gets diseases. It is similar to science.

Apart from reading books I could go to friends places to play PSP. I admire it so much, i wish it was mine. My favorite game is FIFA 2014. I enjoy it more than any other game. What of you Jack? What is your favorite game to play?

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
