About

Abigael Mwelu is the second born child in a family of seven children. Her father deserted the family and went to live in Mombasa leaving the burden of caring and educating the children to their mother who does casual jobs like washing people clothes and digging to fend for the family. Her elder sister managed to complete high school through the support of well-wishers but she could not proceed to college and got married. Abigael has had to repeat several classes due to lack of payment for school dues but all along she has been among the top performing students. Despite her humble background Abigael is hardworking and has never given up in all these circumstances. She did her primary education examination at Sofia Primary School and managed to score 331 marks. She has been admitted to join form one at Kilembwa secondary school. Abigael believes that education is the only way to get out of the poverty cycle. She is determined to have a successful life in future that will allow her to help her family and also other needy children to achieve their goals.

At home am also revising because after the Holiday we will have to do our opener exam. I take this chance to thank you so much for your support. I always appreciate so much. May God bless you.

Dear Mwende,

Thank you so much for your journal. I also enjoyed meeting you and I thank God for protecting you and getting you back home safely. I am doing fine in school. We have now closed school for the August holiday and we shall resume back in September. I will be glad to talk to you during the school break from the LRC.

I am very happy and grateful to you for funding my second year in high school. May the Almighty God bless you. I promise to work hard in school to achieve my dreams.

During the holiday I will keep visiting the LRC to borrow books to do private studies at home and also help my mother in household chores.

Wishing you a blessed summer.

Hi everyone,

Its my hope that everyone in TSF family is doing well. We have come to the end of the April holiday. During the holiday I participated in many occasions and one of the outstanding was celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd. Together with other TSF students we all gathered at the Kenya Connect LRC to celebrate the day. We had the opportunity to plant some trees, and also learn about recycling of materials. I participated in reciting a poem to other participants on recycling and we really enjoyed the day. I was happy to learn new things about the earth and how to protect our environment.

We are now back to school for the second term of the year. During the vacation I was doing private studies. I borrowed textbooks at the Kenya Connect library and they helped me a lot. During the term I am going to work extra hard to achieve good grades.

Below is a photo of me reciting a poem during the Earth Day
Wishing all students a good school term.

Hi friends,

Hope all is well with you. We have come to the end of first term of the year. I am extremely happy to be in school and this is all because of your support. My dream to go to high school was almost fading away because my family could not afford school fees. I am grateful to everyone who is willing to support my education in order to achieve my goals. I understand that success is doing the extra and i am determined to do the extra in class work. After doing an end of term exam i passed well with a grade of B. The future now seems bright and i know with good education i will be able to break out from the yoke of poverty. I want to help my parents and also other unprivileged students in the society to attain high school education. I believe that with good education everything is possible. Attached is a photo of me doing private studies at Kenya Connect Resource centre.

Blessings to you all

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
