About

Musyoka is the second born child in a family of three children. He is a courageous, confidant and hard-working boy who is also a talented actor filled with a great sense of humor. He has won many prizes in acting. He completed primary school at Wamunyu ABC primary school in 2013 together with his elder sister and could not proceed to high school, as their father could not afford fees for two children. Musyoka however did not give up and instead opted to repeat grade eight with high hopes of joining secondary school. He has now completed Primary education at Wamunyu ABC and was the top student with 379 marks! His father, who has been taking care of the family through a small-scale business of hawking woodcarvings, recently broke his leg while on work. He is now disabled and at home nursing the injury. This accident has badly affected the family's source of income. Musyoka's mother on the other hand is a house-help and has resulted to doing casual jobs to support the family. Musyoka's elder sister is in secondary school but most times she has stayed at home due to fees balances. Their father has been struggling to pay for her school fees. The poor background has not deterred Musyoka from pursuing his dreams. Given the opportunity to go to school, Musyoka dreams that one day he will make it to become a professional actor.

Hi Musyoka,

I miss hearing from you and am dying to know your plans? I haven't gotten your results from your exam, I have been praying for you. You are such an amazing person, I am sure you are on your way to doing great things.

Maggie is doing well at Penn State University, she just went to a leadership meeting in Austin, TX. Liam, my son is starting to look at colleges. He likes Penn State and if he goes, he would be the 6th person in our family to go there which is crazy. He also likes Virginia Tech which is so beautiful. The kids here also have to take a National test to see how well they do and what caliber of University they get into called the SAT. The higher you score the better school you get accepted in to. So the kids take the test maybe three times in a years period of time to try and get their highest score. Liam will take the exam shortly for the second time. Lily has another year before she has to take the test. She is learning how to drive now. She is 16 and will get her license to drive a car, in August.

I think of you often and would love to know how you are doing? And what your plans are. All my love, Laura

Hi Musyoka,

When is your exam, I’m praying for you. My husband and I are in Australia with friends. Yikes the teenagers are at home, I have a teacher staying with them to keep them safe. You’ve got this! I know you will drive great! Keep me posted.
Hi Laura,
I was glad to read your journal and see beautiful pictures which you send in your past journal. I have learned a lot from you and again thanks alot. Pray for me. Finally say hi to the rest of the family. LOVE YOU
Here is my second picture. This is the kids that I went to the El Camino Pilgrimage in Spain, in June with. We had 61 kids and we walked 112K in 5 days which was strenuous for us. The kids in the yellow and red are Spanish friends we met on the trip. The cathedral in the background is the St. James Cathedral in Santiago, Spain. We also visited Madrid. Love you Musyoka You got this! And I know you will be very successful! Laura
Yikes forgot the picture. oxox's Laura
Wow Musyoka,

You write the most beautiful letters. I am so looking forward to the success you will achieve with God's grace in your examination. You give me far too much credit, I have only loved & supported you from afar. I know you will achieve many goals in life and I can't wait to hear of your next steps. It's been a wonderful experience to hear about your life, meet you and share a little of our lives with you. I hope we can stay in touch, you mean so much to me and my family. Say hello to your family for me. Here are two pictures, one of my kids this summer at the beach. Love Laura
Hi Laura,

I'm very happy for your support for those two years of my education. You have great to me and elevated construction from destruction. Thanks for the abundant love that you gave and great motivation and inspiration. You have taught me how to be hardworking and furthermore, how to possess leadership qualities. Though the race have been so unbearable and with lots of obstacles, I finally adapted and remained firm and now I'm ending with my initial pace. I have really liked all that time that I have been in touch with you and I'm really grateful.

But now the examination is almost here with me. Its time to check on the resolutions that I made at the beginning of the year. Many I have achieved and thus I not remorseful on the list of 'not done'. I really need your prayers so as I may achieve my set target and so keep me in your prayers at this time of examination.

Greetings from my granny, mom, dad and my sisters. Finally say Hi to Maggie and the rest of your family members. I adore you.

Lots of love,
Anthony.
Hi Musyoka,

I wrote you a long letter but it got lost on this website, I am sorry you did not receive it. Anyway, I will ask James & Sharon to assist you but I don't really know how to get you in a program to come to school in the US, it would be wonderful if you could make it here. I would love to house you when you are on breaks etc.

I am so happy for your sister what a wonderful major, she apparently is smart just like you. Good luck on your exam, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am going to Spain with my youth group for a religious Pilgrimage with Lily shortly. We will walk 100K on the El Camino trail. The kids have been fundraising for two years to help offset the price of the trip and we are taking about 60 kids, so that should be fun. Maggie is in Australia right now with her friends so I am anxious to hear how her trip is going, it is her first time traveling abroad. We have had tremendous rains recently, one just destroyed our little town, Ellicott City. We have helping collect goods for the residents and store owners and are helping cleaning out their buildings of debris and trash. The water rose 12 feet so the whole first floors were under water. Cars got tossed around like toys and roads collapsed. One two hundred old building got washed away. Only one life was lost, a brave man who was trying to rescue someone else. We are still getting rain, way too much of it, it's very green but the trees start falling over from too much rain. All my best, Laura
Hi Laura,
We have come for closing. Im happy that you send me your pictures in fact they are awesome. We have had a lot of things happening in this term including games, drama festivals and symposiums.
I will be graduating in six months time where i will be sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. I would wish to come abroad for further studies but I don't know how to apply for it.I will be happy if you guide me on how to apply for an abroad university.

My elder sister will be joining university on september to pursue computer engineering.

We will be resuming to school on May second. I will be doing a lot of revision to sharpen my skills and wits since the examination is almost here with me. Say hi to Maggie and Lily. Love you,

Hi Anthony,

So sorry that it has been so long since I wrote you, you are important to me. We had a lovely Christmas, Maggie came home on December 16th and stayed until January 7th. She has a short break because her school finishes in early May. Most colleges have longer breaks but finish late in May. We celebrated Lily's birthday on the 21st, she turned 15. Then we had family come over on Christmas day and ate a big meal of steak and vegetables & potatoes and desserts. We participated in the Live Creche at church, we visit and bring gifts to a ARC home of ladies in their fifties that live in a group home. They are mentally disabled. Then on New Years we had our closest friends over and covered from a restaurant Indian food from India. It was delicious. At midnight we lighted Chinese Lanterns, but it was too cold and they did not float up in the sky. Since then it has been really cold this winter. It is suppose to be spring but it is still cold, we are kind of bummed about the cold. I love the flowers of spring, I am sure they will get here soon enough. Have you decided what you are going to do when you graduate? When do you graduate, I think it is soon? Please tell me your plans I so hoped you would come to the US.

This is the decorations outside our house at Christmas. We had a little snow here. Our home is 150 years old, built around the time of the civil war in the US.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
