Hello Melissa,
I am very glad to hear from you.I am joining university on September.During this period the Kenya connect has send me to my former primary school where I studied so that I can give back to the society. The children in the school are very happy and I always enjoy their company, they enjoy my company too.I am very excited and glad to hear much from you.
In Kenyan universities, many youths are committing suicide due to economic hardships which lead to depression.
In Kenya there are some towns whose temperatures are quite high and in other areas children have stopped going to school.
I am looking forward to hear more from you.
Bye
Dear Syongwa,
Congratulations on completing your high school education and beginning at university. This is very exciting news!
I am sitting in my den at home, with a fire going, looking out the window at snow and ice. The temperature is in single digits (Fahrenheit; negative in Celsius!). We had 7.5 inches of snow on Monday, which is twice the average annual snowfall for this area. It's been lovely, actually!
I hope your classes at university are interesting and challenging. I look forward to hearing if you like them and if you meet interesting new people.

Regards,
Melissa

Hello Melissa,
I am very glad to hear from you.Its my great wish that you are going on well. The picture about the bald-eagle is quite interesting.I am looking on forward to hearing more from you.
Byee!
Trying again to attach the eagle picture.
Here is a picture of the bald eagle pair -- it is not particularly good quality, because I had to put my cellphone camera up to a telescope! But - you can get an idea of what they look like. The wingspan of the female is 2.2 meters! The wingspan of the male is 1.9 meters! These are really big birds.

Dear Syongwa,
I was so glad to receive your message today and hear that your exams went well. I hope you receive good news on December 23; my guess is that you did quite well.
I had not heard about the terrible rain and flooding in Kenya. What a tragedy, especially for the people who are displaced or lost loved ones. I am grateful that you are safe.
Thanks for mentioning Thomson Falls - I looked up pictures online and the waterfall is stunning. I hope to see it in person someday.
We are finally entering a season of colder weather where I live. The leaves have turned yellow, red, orange, brown, and have fallen from the trees. The bucks have come out of hiding, because it is mating season, and are making their presence known! Attached is a picture I took while walking at a nearby part called Radnor Lake. There is also a pair of bald eagles that nest high up in a tree on the shore of this lake. Two days ago, I saw one swoop down and catch a fish. Bald eagles are some of the largest birds found in the U.S., and they are our national symbol. You will see the bald eagle on the Seal of the United States.
I am busy with online classes - I am learning how to write computer programs and manipulate data using SQL and Python (2 coding languages). I hope to find a job in the field of data analysis.
I hold great respect for you and your desire to go into journalism, to tell the stories of women and other people you encounter. Who knows? Maybe your career will bring you to the US someday!
My prayer for you:
May God bless you and keep you safe. May you find joy and fulfillment in your daily life. May you have the strength, courage, creative vision, and determination to dream big and pursue those dreams.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
with love - Melissa

I am very grateful to you all for supporting my education. It has taken a big heart for you all to finance my education since form one till know when I am through with my form four exam.
It is my wish that i will get an opportunity to continue writing to you all.I am really grateful to you all for helping me brighten my future life and making my dream come true.

Dear Melissa,
I am grateful that you wrote back.I am really excited to inform you that I am now through with my final exam in secondary school.
I am very eager to visit Latourell falls in Oregon. This is indeed a nice place to visit during leisure time. There are also more falls in Kenya :The fourteen falls,Thompson falls. In Kenya there has been the El nino rains which have struck and many households have been swept away leaving thousands of citizens homeless and about two hundred dead.
The recent statistiscs show that the rains may as well continue and cause more disaster in the country. My place is not greatly affected by the rains and I am really grateful to God for His divine favour and mercy.
I am really excited that you wrote back as I was away.
The exams were quite good and I am looking forward to getting a good grade which will enable me join the best universities in the world and study Journalism.
I would like to study as far as my life could go and help many people in my country especially women and young girls who are suffering behind curtains with none to fight for their rights.I believe that every human being has their rights and none should take them for granted.
I would like to hear more from you; about you and your country.
May the Almighty God grant you peace and a long life so that we can keep on chatting.
Bye.
Dear Syongwa,
It is so good to hear from you! I hope your final exams go well in a couple of weeks.
I had not heard of Mary Pope Osborne, but I just looked her up on Amazon's website, and her Magic Treehouse series looks like it is very entertaining and informative. Reading is the best way to travel the world and learn about other people, their cultures, and our history as humanity. You must be well-read to be a good journalist, so keep it up!
It sounds as if you have found a real purpose for your life - to reveal the suffering and abuse of others, hoping to make a difference. May God bless you in these endeavors. You will learn a lot in the process. I look forward to hearing more. I am sending a picture of me at Latourell Falls, in Oregon (the west coast of the United States).
With love,
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
I am so excited you wrote to me.I am very sorry for replying so late.I was in school and could not write back to you on time.
I am currently reading a novel called ¨THE CONQUEST OF NORTH AFRICA¨ written by Alexander Smith. It is about how the French,British and Italians fought to get some parts of Africa and middle East many people died during this time and many Britons lost their expensive tanks during this time .I am aspiring to become a journalist so that I can fight for the rights of women who are suffering greatly and harshly in villages and towns with none to expose their sufferings so that they can be freed from their problems.
I am very glad to hear that you love reading books .My favourite author is Mary Pope Osborne who has written many books on the Magic tree house.I would like to hear more from you.
May God continue blessing you in your doings.
Hi donors,
How are you ?Hope you are all okay.I am really excited to write to you again after a long stay in school.
It has been an extremely busy term for students especially the form fours.Putting in great consideration that this is their final year in school, each of us has been working hard to make sure their dream will soon be a reality.
I am very glad to inform you that I have made some new discoveries about my country.I have visited the Sumbukia Shrine which was established many years ago.It is a very important place for everyone to visit especially believers. The shrine is a very big building of about four floors. Many things caught my attention. There are three pools of water:if anyone think that they have some physical deformities there is a pool of water for healing such problems,if they have a spiritual problem there is a pool of water containing spiritual healing ,if one has some mental problems there is a pool of water for healing such. The only thing one has to have is complete trust in the healing power of the water.Mary Mother of Jesus appears at the place periodically and only those who believe fully that she exists can be able to see her.NO one can be able to take a photo of her since it only a spirit but one can be able to see her appearing blue.
It was a very amazing view about the Roman Catholic religion.

I have greatly worked hard in school and improved in my studies.I am at home for a holiday which is taking about two weeks and I will be back to school for my final exam.I am looking forward to joining the university and pursuing journalism and mass communication.
I am very greatful to you all for supporting my education till now. I would like to hear more about you during this holiday. You are so important to me and my family.May God continue blessing you all in your doings in each second of your lives.Bye
Dear Syongwa,
I am glad that your first term went well. I wonder - what is your favorite subject or activity in school? Why is it your dream to become a journalist? I, too, love to read and have a stack of books waiting to be opened up and read. I am reading a series by Thomas Cahill called "The Hinges of History" in which he writes about the evolution of Western sensibility - what he describes as "how we became the people we are and why we think and feel as we do." The first book is called "How The Irish Saved Civilization" in which he reports how monks living at the remotely-located monasteries of Ireland preserved the written works of Greece and Rome, along with Jewish and Christian works, during the Dark Ages of European history. He's written four more books in the series and they are fascinating! I also love the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear, about a woman investigator in London, England, after World War I and progressing through World War II. As you know, books are a window to the rest of the world! Do you have a favorite book or author?
May God bless you and keep you safe, healthy, and at peace.
Melissa Wert

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
