About

Benjamin is the first born child in his family. Both his parents live from hand to mouth but have been very supportive to Benjamin in his quest for education through doing casual jobs like drawing water for other people. Benjamin has always been very helpful to his parents in paying for his school fees by working casual jobs during school breaks. Despite all odds, Benjamin has stayed at the top of his class academically. He remains focused and is always ready to conquer any challenge that comes his way. For Benjamin, getting a good education is the only means to empower a community.

Hey Benjamin,

How are you? I just wanted to check in to see you you did on the exams. Do you know the results yet?

All the best.

Molly
Hallo Molly,

Hope you are doing fine. I am doing well in school. We are now sitting for our final exam in high school. I am hoping that i will pass and join university. Please remember me in your prayers. Hoping to keep in touch with you.

All the best.

Benjamin
Hi Molly,

So sad that we never met. From the photos i was shown by Patrick i remember seeing you but i could not guess you were the one. You came to our school Nyaani secondary. I know we are going to meet next time. We have come to the end of the second term of the year. we are only left with three months and we sit for our final exam in high school. I am working extra hard to achieve a grade to enable me join university. Thank you for your concern and support towards my education.

wishing you all the best.

Benjamin.
Hi Benjamin,

I had such a good time in Kenya, everyone was so welcoming. I apologize because I forgot to look up the name of your school before I left for Kenya. I did visit Nyaani but because I forgot to find out where you went to school, I didn't know you would be there. I am so sorry, I feel terrible about that! I would have loved to meet you in person. Were you there? I know some students/teachers didn't come to school because of the strike.

I wish you all the best with your exams.

Molly
Hi Molly,

I am very happy to hear from you. I am also glad to hear about Universities in the US. We are now in a mid-term break and will be returning to school after three days.

I am still working smart and i hope i will pass my exams come November. I am happy to hear that you will be visiting us in Kenya. You are most welcome.

We do not have a wide range of universities but a few public universities like University of Nairobi. To get admission in these universities you have to pass very well. It is very competitive and i hope i will make it. Thanks so much for writing.

Hope to hear from you again

Benjamin
Hi Benjamin,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! I love hearing from you but it has been a busy couple of months! I hope your second term is going well, you are getting so close to the end of high school! Thats so exciting!

I completed University in May which is why I have been so bad at responding. I finished with final exams, graduation and I moved. I am now looking for jobs in the field of psychology in Maryland. Hopefully I will get one soon. It is hard to get jobs for college graduates in America because our economy is still rebuilding.

To answer your question, getting into University is not easy in America. Each year it gets more competitive. You have to have good grades, good test scores, and you have to be involved in clubs, sports or other activities to make you stand out from everyone else. We do have a wide range of University here though. Some, like our Ivy league schools, are incredibly difficult to get in to. Some, like community colleges, everyone gets in but it is only a two year degree instead of four year. Most are somewhere in the middle of difficulty to get in to. Do you have a wide range of universities to choose from? From what it sounds like, you work very hard and will likely get in to the University of Nairobi. I cannot wait to hear how you do on your exams in November!

I will be visiting Kenya soon with Kenya Connect. I am so excited. I am not sure if we are visiting your school or not while we are there but I will find out and let you know. It would be so great to meet you!

Best wishes,

Molly
Hi Molly
Hope you received my recent journal. We have opened school for the second term of the year, which will run up to July. Have you completed school? I am working hard this final year in high school and I hope to perform well.

All the best

Benjamin
Hallo Molly
I am always happy to read your journals. This is my last year in secondary school and by November I will sit for my final exam in high school. To join public university you must pass well and I am working hard to join the University of Nairobi. I am pleased to see that you are completing your university. Is getting to university in your country easy?

Best wishes
Benjamin
Hey Benjamin,

I am so glad to hear that you had a good holiday! When will you take your exams? What university do you want to attend if you are able to get in? I am sure you will do great!

I finish university in one month. I intend to work so that I can save up some money in order to continue my education later on. I eventually want to get my PhD in psychology but that will be a very long process and years away.

Good to hear from you,

Molly
Hi Molly,

I am very happy to hear from you. My holiday was wonderful. I engaged my self in helping my parents with household chores. Being my the final year in high school, I am working extra hard to pass my final exams. When you pass well in final exams you can choose the university to go depending on the career you want. Unfortunately our government sponsored universities are very competitive and one has to attain high marks to be selected.

It is good to hear that you are completing your university education. Do you intent to work or continue learning? hoping to hear from you

Regards,

Benjamin
Hey Benjamin,

How was your holiday? Did you do anything fun? That is so exciting that you are in your final high school class! What are you learning in this class?

I am in my last semester of University right now. It is a strange feeling knowing that I will be done with my schooling in just a few months. When you take your exam and you pass, do you choose which University you get to go to? Where would you like to go?

I am happy to hear that the weather has been good in Kenya. It has been snowing a lot here!

Molly
Hi Molly,

Sorry for not replying your journal. We had closed school for the December Holiday. We are now back to school. I have moved to the final class in high school and we call it form four in Kenya. At the end of the year we will sit for a national examination upon passing the exam i will be able to proceed to university. I am happy to hear that school is fine for you. I am also enjoying school and i am working hard to achieve my goals.

Christmas and new year was fun and i enjoyed it. I hope you had a wonderful time too.

The rains have been good this season and we are anticipating for a bumper harvest. In Kenya as you know it doesn't get very cold in fact in our coldest months of June and July temperatures are 20 degrees Celsius.

Hope to hear from you.
Benjamin
Benjamin,

School is going well. I am also coming to an end for our fall semester. I have one week left! I am very excited for a break for the holidays! Have you taken your exams yet? If not, good luck! I am sure you will do great. I hope you get to achieve your goal of going to high school and college. I don't know how it works in Kenya but in the states they are fun because you get to choose more of your classes so you can study things that you are most interested in.

What are you planting? I hope its rains a lot for you! When I visited Kenya it was so green because you had a great rain season, I hope that happens again this year. The weather in Maryland is getting very cold!! It is about 40-45 degrees Fahrenheit lately. We have already had one snow. Usually it doesn't start snowing until mid December so I think it is going to be a very cold winter! Do you celebrate Christmas or any other holidays?

Let me know how your exams go!

Molly
Molly,

I am glad to hear from you. Kenya is a good country and you are always welcome.

In school i am working hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor. my best subjects are biology and chemistry. I am happy to hear that you also like sciences. How is school in USA? We are almost coming to the end of school year and now we are sitting for end of year exams that will promote us to the next class. I am hoping to complete high school next year and then join college.

At home we are busy planting as the rains has began. How is the weather in Maryland?

Best wishes
Benjamin
Hi Benjamin!

My name is Molly. I have worked with Kenya Connect and this past summer I was able to visit Kenya! It is a beautiful country, I hope to go back again some day. I am from Maryland in the USA but I go to school in Massachusetts.

I see that you like science classes. I do too! Right now, I am learning psychology. I really like it because I get to learn about people. I see that you want to be a Doctor. That is amazing that you want to help people for a living. It is a great goal! How are you doing right now? I would love to hear about how school is going and anything else that is going on in your life!

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
