Hi friends,

I am glad once again to share with all my friends in TSF. I do appreciate the enormous support and encouraging words i have received from everyone. I have now started my final term in high school. Very soon i will be sitting for my final exam. I am looking forward to it and i am confident that i will perform well.

I urge you to continue supporting young children to pursue their dreams in education.

Wishing you all the best

Dorcus
Hallo Christi,
I am happy to hear from you! I will try peaches one day. At home i usually cook for my grand parents and also clean the utensils. Mostly in African traditions men do very little in the kitchen but its has started to change due to education.

We are experiencing a cold season now and we are forced to put on heavy clothing. Does it get cold in your place?

Hoping to hear from you!

Dorcus
Hi Dorcus,
I wish that you could try peaches. They are so sweet and delicious. I have also made a salad before from carrots and cabbage, and it was very tasty. Do you ever help to cook for your family? In my family, my mom cooks most of the meals, and my dad cleans up afterwards. When I cook dinner with my boyfriend we both split the work of cooking and cleaning. I think it is fun to cook together.

Thank you for your well wishes for law school. I am so proud of all of your achievements in secondary school! I hope that I can learn from your hard work to do well in school myself.

All the best,
Christi
Hi Christi,
Thank you for remembering me once again. I now know how to type my own journal though i still get assistance from Kenya Connect to upload it. I have never tasted peaches. We also make salads though we don't use lettuce instead we use carrots and cabbages.

I usually feel excited to resume back to school after a hard tasks at home especially during the rain season. I am still focused and i know i will make it to the University.

I am wishing you all the best in your law school. I know you can make it.

Dorcas
Hi Dorcus,
I'm sorry I haven't written in a long time! Congratulations on learning some computer skills! Did you type your own journal entry? It is very good!

Lettuce is a thin leafy vegetable that people use to make salads. Peaches are my favorite food in the world. They are a sweet juicy fruit that drips down your hand when you eat it. I wish I could share some with you!

I believe that you will be able to pass to university! Good luck getting back to school after the holiday. I always had a hard time going back after a long time off.

I found out that I will go to law school next year in the town that I live in now. I'm excited but also scared to go back to school. You're inspiring me to work hard in school so that I can also achieve my dreams!

All the best,
Christi
Hi Julia Millard
All is well with me in school. I have been learning seven subjects; Maths, English, Kiswahili, Biology, Chemistry, Christian Religious Education and History. It is now raining heavily and we have closed school for the April holiday. During the Holiday I will be helping my grand parents in weeding for crops. Since I am in the last year of high school, I am working hard to ensure that I pass well to join university.

Nice time

Dorcas
Hi Dorcus,

I hope school is going well! What have you been learning lately? It is getting warmer here and it is almost time for summer break. I will be playing soccer with my family and working. What do you do on your breaks?

All the best,
Julia Millard
Hi Christi

Hope all is well with you. The rain season has ceased and now we are harvesting maize, beans, cow peas and green grams. What are lettuce and peaches? I love pumpkins also. we will break for midterm on 28th February and resume back on 8th March. This long break is to pave way for our general elections as schools are used as polling centers.

We still visit the Kenya connect resource center where we are updating our journals. we are also privileged to learn some computer basics.

Wishing you all the best.
Dorcus
Hi Dorcus,
I'm sorry for my long silence! Thank you for your note! Is it still the rainy season in Kenya? It's interesting to hear about what you grow. I worked at a farm last year where we grew lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, blueberries, pumpkins, corn, and peaches. The peaches were my favorite. Which food do you like best to eat?

Have you started school yet? I think that school should be starting soon if it hasn't already. Have you gone to Kenya Connect's learning resource center? I'm curious to hear if students are using it yet!

I hope you're very well and that the semester is starting well.

All the best,
Christi
Hi Christi,
I am happy to hear from you! This reminds me of your visit to us. The teachers strike lasted for three weeks and during that time I held group discussions with students from other schools and I learned a lot from them.

We are almost approaching the rains and people are busy preparing their farms ready for planting. We grow crops like maize, beans, peas, and pumpkins among others. We rarely sell our produce but during a bumper harvest we sell the extra to avoid damage.

I am happy to hear that your dad’s birthday was enjoyable. My family and I are doing fine. Wishing you all the best in your activities.

Dorcus.
Hi Dorcus,
I heard about the teacher's strike. It worried me a lot to know that you and all the other Kenyan students were kept out of school for so many days. I hope that your private studies have helped you stay on track, and will help you keep doing well in school.

My dad's birthday was enjoyable! We celebrated by taking a long bike ride to the Indiana Dunes, which is a big beach on a Lake Michigan (one of the largest lakes in the world!) I've included a picture below so that you can see what it looks like.

What crops do you grow in your garden? Do you eat everything that you grow or does your family sell some of it?

I hope all is well with you and your family!

Warmly,
Christi
Hi Christi,

I am happy to hear that you want to go back to school. You are my role model and I will follow your steps.

My August holiday was fine though it has been prolonged by a teachers strike. Hope your visit to your family and your dad's birthday was enjoyable. During the holiday i harvested crops from our garden and helped in household chores. I was also doing private studies in order to improve in my studies.

I wish you all the best in your daily endeavors.

Dorcus
Hi Julia,

Thank you so much for your encouragements. Our school vacation ended by the beginning of September but we have not yet gone back to school because our teachers are on strike. they are demanding extra pay from the government and they are still negotiating.

My school is a mixed day and boarding. It is painted green and looks very beautiful. Our normal school day starts at 7:00 o'clock with preps then we clean the compound at 7:30 AM. at 8:00 o'clock we start our lessons. Each lesson takes forty minutes with breaks between two lessons. At 4 0'clock we go for games and then go home as from 5:30 PM.

Thanks for getting in touch

Hi Dorcas,
Great question! In fact I am trying to go back to school. I am studying to become an environmental lawyer. I'll learn about the laws that govern how humans interact with the environment. I'm especially interested in fishing laws.

I hope you're enjoying your holiday! I am taking a holiday this weekend to go back to Chicago and visit my family. I live in Boston (1000 miles away from Chicago) but I try to get back home as much as possible. When I'm home I'll celebrate my dad's birthday. What will you do on your holiday?

Thanks for writing. I love to hear from you!

Christi

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
